This week, at the IMO’s Sub-Committee on Ship Design and Construction (SDC11) meeting, critical conversations unfolded on key issues impacting the maritime industry, including mitigating underwater radiated noise (URN). The increasing impact of URN on marine ecosystems has prompted global attention, and the need for international collaboration to address the issue has never been more urgent.

The GEF-UNDP-IMO GloNoise Partnership has provided a key update on progress and outlined next steps for 2025, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in implementing the URN Action Plan. While there is still much work to be done, the commitment to continuing these efforts is strong. The collaborative approach is a key factor in ensuring meaningful progress, and we are excited to be part of this important journey toward protecting the marine environment and promoting sustainability in the shipping sector. The collective action taken now will help shape a cleaner, quieter, and more sustainable future for both the industry and our oceans.
